Dark Chocolate

The Healthy Side of Dark Chocolate

Chocolate has received its share of negative publicity when it comes to your health, but did you know that there's a healthy side to dark chocolate?

It's true. In fact, dark chocolate can help raise the level of antioxidants in your blood. And antioxidants help lower the levels of free-radicals. This isn't true of the other chocolates, white chocolate or milk chocolate, which contain milk. Apparently, dairy products inhibit the absorption of flavonoids, which are more prevalent in dark chocolate and believed to be the cause of the antioxidants in the blood.

In addition, dark chocolate can actually lower your blood pressure if you've reached a certain age and have mild high blood pressure. What is it in dark chocolate that makes it unigue in fighting high blood pressure? Apparently, it's the cocoa phenols.

This is great news for chocolate lovers, but it's not permission to put yourself into a chocolate coma. Use caution. You still need to keep control of your calories. A 100-gram serving of Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Bar has 531 calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. If you ate that much raw apple you'd only take in 52 calories. But then, you'd miss out on the delicious blood pressure benefit.

Dark Chocolates of the World
It’s a rare breed that doesn’t enjoy milk chocolate. Creamy, sweet, delicious, it’s a welcome treat any time. Dark chocolate, on the other hand, is more of an acquired taste, but it serves as an exquisite cap to an elegant meal or the center piece of a tasting. As your palate will matures and comes to appreciate dark chocolate, you will soon realize that it is full of subtle distinctions similar to wine. Like grapes, cocoa is an agricultural product that expresses terroir. In general cocoa is treated as a commodity and the end product is a commodity called milk chocolate.

Dark And Almond Luxury
We take whole organic Sicilian almonds, with their skins left on & caramelise them to intensify their flavor. The caramelisation toasts the nut giving it a deeper, nuttier, more savoury flavor & creating a slightly sweet, crisp shell. We take time to enhance the flavor of the almonds in this way so they balance the intensity of our bittersweet dark chocolate. Available in 150g bars.

Gourmet Dark Chocolate Bar
If you are anything like me, you are always on a quest for the ultimate chocolate. I have tried them all - many are good, some are very good, but until now I had not found the ultimate chocolate. The taste is extraordinary: pungent aroma, deep rich flavor, velvet texture and an elusive bittersweet tang. As you can tell, I cannot say enough in praise of this chocolate made by the renowned Blanxart candy makers. Try this ample 7-oz bar and see if you agree. You are in for an extraordinary treat.
